About

What is selfhosting?: Selfhosting is the act of running various web services on your own physical or virtual infrastructure. In essence, it is running your own personal cloud, where your data is your own.

What kind of services can I host?: Anything you can think of: cloud storage, private messaging servers, minecraft servers, videocall services, email and calendaring, ebooks, password managers, streaming, development environments, recipe databases and calorie trackers… all for free!

Why is it relevant? Why waste time selfhosting anything when I can pay for cloud subscriptions?: It’s true cloud services are amazing, many of the most commonly used services like Google Drive, Office 365, Netflix, and Spotify are so ubiquitous that most don’t even realize the sheer number of cloud systems they depend on every day. The primary issue with many cloud services is Ads. Nowadays almost every single consumer oriented service shows countless advertisements while farming us for data to sell to Ad networks and AI firms. We are slowly losing control of our own thoughts and content.
